Depression and Dementia

Depression is common in people with Alzheimer's and related dementias. Dementia can cause some of the same symptoms as depression and depression can be an early warning sign of possible dementia.
Depressed elderly may not feel sad. They may complain of low motivation, lack of energy, and physical complaints like worsening headaches or arthritis pain. Losing interest in social activities, physical activities, and isolation can eventually lead to a loss of function.
