Common Challenges of Being a Family Caregiver

Being a family caregiver can be stressful. Caregiving often results in chronic stress, (and compassion fatigue) which compromises caregiver's physical psychological health. Depression is one of the common negative effects of caregiving. Caring for a person with dementia is particularly challenging, causing more severe negative health effects than other types of caregiving.
Common challenges can include:
Managing time - caregivers often find they have less time for themselves and other family members.
Emotional and physical stress.
Lack of privacy.
Financial strain.
Sleep deprivation.
Being afraid to ask for help.
Depression and isolation.
Neglecting their own health (no self care).
Losing social contacts and support.
