Can You Afford In-Home Caregivers?

YES YOU CAN. With 10,000 baby boomers a day turning 65 between now and 2030, the need for in-home care will only increase. As we age many elderly are determined to stay in their own home around familiar things that bring them comfort and security. At some point they are likely to need help for a few hours a day or 24/7 - with household chores, personal care, transportation/errands, ADL's (activities of daily living), chronic disease management, medication management, etc.

OPTIONS TO AFFORD IN-HOME PRIVATE DUTY CAREGIVERS

  1. Paying out of pocket (private pay) - care at home can be less expensive than skilled facilities and offer one on one care. In addition to private pay using investments and savings, options include long term care insurance policies, annuities, life insurance policies, borrowing from family/relatives, reverse mortgage or home equity loans.

  2. Government assistance - Medicaid or waiver programs (eligibility varies state by state).

  3. Veterans benefits - Aid & Attendance benefit. Eligible former service members and their spouses may qualify for the Aid & Attendance benefit (contact Comforcare to see if you qualify).
